Bigger, Better and Slower iOS4
Even though iPhone 4 is better and faster compared to iPhone 3GS, the iOS4 is not. Especially on iPhone 3GS let alone 3G model. Our customers have noticed this also.
Finnish iPhone magazine (iPhone Maailman by Talentum) did some more thorough testing and this is what they found:
All device here used iOS4 and run different apps and tests. For example time to load NYTimes.com front page took 14,7 seconds from iPhone 4 but whopping 45,1 seconds from 3G. App called Peggle it opened in 3 seconds with iPhone 4 but 16,5 seconds from 3G (8,5 secs with 3GS). Other apps pretty much follow the same route.
So opening up your app with iPhone 3G running iOS4 might lead to some idle time waiting for the app to load.

Branded mobile marketing Apps on the rise
Netsize has released it's Mobile marketing Survey. Key findings are that new customer aquisition is the top reason (more than half) for what mobile marketing is used. But boosting customer loyalty follows.
As expected, messaging, namely SMS and MMS lead the pack of what type of marketing is conducted. Main shift is from broadcast one-way message to two-way conversations. New technologies are rapidly catching the SMS marketing, with Mobile web sites being the next along with mobile banners.
The biggest growth is however with downloadable branded apps, respondents say the use will increase from 23% to 35%. This sounds what we have seen too. Mobile Website is the basics, but more ad more interest is coming to have branded apps.
Main reason we see, is that interactivity from Apps is 10 times more than from Wap sites. Wap is more for readers, whereas interaction and user generated content is clearly sparked by App users.

Geniem Music ODP continues deployments in Middle East
Geniem powers the largest Mobile Music coalition in Middle East. Zain continues it's launches of ‘Zain Create’ now in Jordan. The service has already been launched in Kuwait and Bahrain and will soon be available to customers of all Zain operations within the Group.

We think Mobile Apps are taking more and more space as "app stores" or "music stores". Again the winning formula is the integration of Web, PC app and Mobile App. We will see if the bold move by Rotana to offer its content exclusively via only one carrier per country will pay off.

Zain Create offers full track downloads, mobile tv, radio and news from world of music.
Music is DRM downloads in mp3 format. The service is run by our customer Rotana that provides the while solution as outsourced entertainment platform. It seems that content owners
are driving the uptake of mobile entertainment by pushing operators to accept new innovative pricing plans.

Rotana, the world's largest owner of Arabic music and film, has done a good job lobbying mobile operators to move to lower data pricing and flat-rate plans that will make the streaming and downloading of content more affordable.
Khaled Al Hajeri, CEO of Zain Kuwait, said: "Mobile phones are no longer devices for merely making and receiving calls, they are increasingly becoming a platform for expressing an entire modern lifestyle, be it for business or pleasure. With Zain Create, this bilateral partnership with Rotana will cater to the entertainment needs of a wide spectrum of our customers in Kuwait, making a wonderful world for them."
